Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?
I use reviews as a guide, but they don't dictate whether or not I buy a book. If the reviewer is specific about what bothered them and I know it will not bother me then I will still read the book. However, I usually put it on the bottom of my To Read list depending on how bad the review is. Fun Fact: I usually read low reviews first on Goodreads and then work up to the 5 star reviews.

I'd never thought about having a system for reading reviews. I tend to just read my friend reviews on goodreads. I have some friends who give a lot more good reviews, some who like more romantic books than me, so I can normally compare among my friends and come up with an opinion.

I like to read reviews after I'm done reading to compare what I thought to what others thought. I try not to let other's opinions get in the way of my opinions about books :)

I mix it up on my goodreads. I read some good some bad. I don't always read the middle of the road ones though

ReplyDeleteI like your idea of reading the back reviews first and saving the good ones for later. Sometimes I look for the few bad reviews in a whole bunch of good ones, just to brace myself for what may be not-so-likable about a book before I read it.
