About Me

Melissa is a 20-something aspiring author and blogger whose current obsessions include: baking, ZUMBAing, crafting (especially crocheting), and learning web design.

Since the age of three, Melissa was sure she was going to be an elementary teacher.  After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Education she decided teaching may not be for her and is currently working at an insurance company.  Her dream future would include starting a family, owning a house (that she can decorate like her boards on Pinterest), buying a dog, publishing a book (or ten), becoming a Zumba instructor, opening a bakery, starting a charity, and/or working for a publishing company.

Current Favorites:
Color: Teal (or more specific Tiffany Blue!)
TV Show: GILMORE GIRLS, PLL, Lying Game, Hart of Dixie, Glee, Revenge, etc.
Music: Go Radio, Bayside, Jason Mraz, Taking Back Sunday, and Taylor Swift
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout or Sarah Dessen
Food: Mac & Cheese or Cheesecake (basically anything that has the word cheese in it!)

When I finished college in May 2011 I began the dreaded job search.  I had so much free time on my hands unlike the four years I spent at school studying and socializing.  So the second I graduated I took advantage of all the free time and the local public library.  After every book I read I would tell my friends and family about it, wanting someone to share my beloved reading experience with.  My dad got tired of hearing me talk about characters like Tris and how she chose to join Dauntless, as if she was a real person.  He never knew what I was talking about, so one day he suggested I start a blog where I could talk to people who have read the same books.  It was a "Duh, why haven't I thought of that before?" moment.

I had started a random blog awhile ago that I never used so I completely gave it a makeover.  I didn't know what to call it though.  Then one day Hurricane Irene came barreling in and we had no power for awhile.  I curled up on the couch with my brother's pomapoo, Harley (or Harley Bear as we call him), and read while he napped.  I figured I would call my blog the Harley Bear Book Blog because 1. he's my favorite reading buddy and 2. it had alliteration in the title (I've spent too much time in an elementary classroom!).  And then it took on a life of itself.  I finally figured out how to use twitter and discovered that millions of other people blog about books.  I love the blogging community and have had such a great experience so far.  I can't wait to see what the future holds!  I still can't believe this journey all started with a casual suggestion from my dad.

My other obsession that I don't usually tell people about is drawing.
