Armchair BEA 2013: Literary Fiction

This topic really confused me.  So my interpretation is going to be books that really made me think and stuck with me long after I read them.  Books I have or will revisit time and time again.

I saw The Perks of Being a Wallflower in theaters mainly because I love Emma Watson.  The movie blew me away so I decided to read the book and wow what an amazing book it was.  Everyone feels like an outsider at some point in their life and this book the main character is just so observant from his spot outside looking in.  He really made me think about why people act certain ways.

When She Woke is kind of like the scarlet letter.  I found it scary realistic and thoroughly thought provoking.  What would I do in her situation?  The main character is so strong it is really inspiring.

The main characters in Code Name Verity are also really amazing women.  They're spies/pilots during the war and their experiences made me laugh and cry and just omg the feels in this book!

I read To Kill a Mockingbird in high school and loved all the themes.  I love that it was told from a young girl's perspective.  I really want to reread this over and over again.

Sarah Dessen's books are in my opinion the best contemporary out there.  She touches on topics that are not "issue topics", but things that everyone deals with.  Like figuring out who you are and where you belong.  Or dealing with an absent parent.  And she doesn't focus solely on the romance which makes her messages stand out more.

     Harry Potter= duh.  Just brilliant.

Today I also reviewed Wild Awake by Hilary T. Smith.  It was an...interesting book.

Armchair BEA 2013: Development & Fiction

Development:
Blogging is a lot like a child learning to walk.  There's a pattern that I've seen in everyone, including myself.  First you learn to crawl.  You set up your blog with a few graphics, a review and a meme or two, and start slow.

Soon you meet other bloggers on twitter or goodreads and they hold your hands while you stand on your feet and learn to take the first few steps into scary things like discussion posts, readathons, and negative reviews.

Before you know it you're standing on your own running, coming up with fresh new ideas and experimenting with new types of posts.  You're not afraid to start a new feature or plan an event because you know you'll have the support of those awesome bloggers out there.  At least this has been my experience.  If it hasn't been yours you're not meeting the right people...so let's be friends.

During the last Bout of Books readathon I randomly started talking to a few ladies on twitter about our love for cookies and coffee, which has nothing to do with books.  But we've been chatting every day since and call ourselves the...wait for it...Book BFFs!  Now we're hosting a 24hr readathon, having google + hangouts, readalongs (June= The 5th Wave), and so much more.  I feel like meeting them has already taken my blogging experience to the next level and it's only been a few weeks.  They've helped me get over my fear of vlogging and have inspired me to share a little bit more about myself instead of hiding behind the computer screen.  In the future I want to get into more web and graphic designing!

Fiction:
My tastes have changed so much since I began blogging.  I used to only read Chick Lit because I thought that's what I was "supposed to be reading" for my age.  I was also embarrassed to buy YA because I thought people would judge me.  I got over that eventually.

Sarah Dessen was my gateway drug to YA Contemporaries.  But when my cousin forced me to read The Hunger Games I started devouring every Dystopian I could get my grabby hands on.  Then came my discovery of New Adult, which I love.  I soon discovered Paranormal and I think this is my favorite so far.  Recently I've gotten into Fantasy.  I really enjoyed Shadow and Bone!  Also, now I want to start trying Historical Fiction and Horror.  Those two I've tried in the past, but they're not my favorite yet.  But the one thing I love in every book is a good romance.  As long as there's romance I'll try it not matter the genre.

Armchair BEA: Monetizing Your Blog

Day 4 Topic: Monetizing Your Blog

My dad is full of such good ideas.  A little while after he suggested starting a blog he said I should find a way to monetize it.  So I started using Adsense thinking I'd make some money on it.  I did...like $1.50.  I can't even buy gum with that.  I ended up moving my advertisements to the bottom of the page because they had nothing to do with books and just looked annoying.

Armchair BEA:

Day 2 Topic: Best Books that were released in 2012 that I have read.

This has been a great year in books so far!  What have you read (that was released in 2012) that you think I should read?

Armchair BEA: Introduction Interview

Photo from: Emily's Reading Room

Thanks for stopping by Harley Bear Book Blog!  I'm so excited to be participating in Armchair BEA this year!  Let's get started...Here are my five interview questions.

1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

Hey everyone. My name is Melissa, I'm 22, and I'm a bookaholic. I've been blogging about books for three months now and love it! Surprisingly, I didn't know the book blogging world existed until after I set up a twitter account for my blog.

A few months ago I found I had a lot more free time on my hands.  My dad suggested I start a blog about books.  I didn't think I would actually keep up with it, but ended up loving blogging almost as much as actually reading!  Now I have somewhere to talk about books with other people who are equally obsessed with books.  Makes me feel more normal when I'm swooning over my book boyfriends characters to know that others are too.
