Harley's Hall of Bookish Fame #4

Maren Dille

Thanks for stopping by today!

If your book was being made into a movie, who would you cast?
For The Faith and Fate of David GhentDean Geyer for David, Maggie Grace for Layla,Patrick Wilson for Nathaniel, Eric Bana for Karael, Paul Bettany for Puriel, Carrie Ann Moss for Ramiala,

You had me at Dean Geyer.  He's the guy that plays Rachel's new love interest on Glee right!?!

How often do you write?
I try to squeeze time in every day. Sometimes that time is very productive and I write whole chapters at a time, other days all I end up doing is deleting a bunch of paragraphs and words. Both things are necessary in the creation of a good novel.

What is the best part about being an author?
I’m always searching for the next book or television show that will have all the aspects I like. Character development, authenticity, strong chemistry, compelling scenes . . . as a writer, I can control all that and live in my own story. The art of creation is challenging, but also extremely rewarding.

I agree.  I'v recently started writing and love being in control of the story, but it isn't easy at the same time.

Did you make playlists for any of your books?
I tend to choose one song and use that for inspiration for the entire novel—much like a trailer for a movie. For The Faith and Fate of David Ghent, I listened to Breaking Benjamin’s “Give Me a Sign,” the acoustic version.

What do you do when you’re not writing?
Think about what I could/should be writing. Seriously, the stories are always at the back of my mind. I’m also a wife and mother, daughter and sister, and friend. I spend a lot of time with my family and friends.
What is your favorite book to movie adaptation?
I loved The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Everything was exactly how I thought it should be, the acting was top-notch, and the emotion and message of the book came across so well in the movie.

Harley's Hall of Bookish Fame #3: Alice in Readerland

Alice from Alice in Readerland!

Are you doing any reading challenges/read-a-thons this year?
In February I presented Fairy Tale February where I spent the whole month reading and reviewing fairy tale retellings, putting a fairy tale twist on memes, and having guest posts on fairy tales. I had a lot of fun!
That sounds like a lot of fun! I saw this at the end of Feb. Maybe I'll participate next time!

What are your blogging habits?
My blogging habits could probably be summed up by saying ‘Last minute Blogger.’ I tend to procrastinate writing the posts until the last minute.
I've  started scheduling mine, but before two weeks ago I was a LMB too!

How did you come up with your blog name?
Well, my name’s Alice and I adore Alice in Wonderland, so the name Alice in Readerland just seemed like the perfect fit.
What is your favorite post you've ever done?
A bit ago I wrote a discussion post on a bookish pet peeve that was really bugging me.  I was so happy that my first discussion post had a great reception; I had a great time hearing everyone’s opinions on topics and their pet peeves in the comments!
Great discussion topic.  We've all got bookish pet peeves I'm sure.

What books have you read, but not reviewed yet?
Three books I’ve read and am excited to review are These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner,Unremembered by Jessica Brody, and How My Summer Went Up in Flames by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski.

Harley's Hall of Bookish Fame #2: Leigh Talbert Moore

Leigh Talbert Moore
Everyone, I'd like to introduce an author that I've worked with a few times and absolutely adore!

Hi Leigh! Thanks for stopping by today.  I love when authors share playlists for books they wrote...did you make one for any of your books?
Yes! I actually made one for Rouge, one for The Truth About Letting Go, and one for a science fiction book I wrote called 21 Days. They help me keep my scenes straight--I kind of imagine them as music videos.

That's awesome!  What's the best piece of advice you've ever gotten?
Just keep swimming. It's actually my advice to me and other writers. This is a tough business, you'll get bad reviews, you'll have writer's block, you'll have setbacks of all kinds... But you have to just keep swimming! :o)

I love the Nemo reference!  Do you have any advice for dealing with rejection from agents?
Keep in mind it's just one person's opinion on what they can sell. For agents, it's about being able to make a deal with the editors they work with, and the agent knows what those editors want. So don't take it personally! And by all means, if you get constructive feedback, use it! I mean, unless it feels wrong...

Personal note: The Truth About Faking was requested and rejected by 20+ agents. Then when I landed an agent for Rouge, she shopped TTAF to 12 editors, and they all passed. It has currently sold 25,000 copies.

My Point = those guys aren't always right! If you believe in your book and are willing to work hard to polish it and get it shiny, self-publishing is always an option.

Great advice!  Some authors have blogs in addition to a website.  Do you have one?
Yes! It's leightmoore.blogspot.com. Please visit and consider following!

And finally, What's the best part about being an author?
The absolute best part is when a reader leaves a review for one of my books and it shows he or she really got the point or the message of my story. LOVE when that happens.

Harley's Hall of Bookish Fame #1: Antie Spinelli Reads

Jessi from Antie Spinelli Reads!

Everyone, I'd like to introduce my twitter friend and fellow blogger Jessi!  She's really awesome so you should definitely check out her blog!

Hi Jessi!  Thanks for stopping by today to kick off my new feature!

Hi Melissa! *waves* I'm so excited to be on your blog!

I always love hearing how people got into blogging.  What made you start Auntie Spinelli Reads?
I have the memory of an 80 year old. Seriously. So I had been contemplating a way to write down my thoughts on the books I read - I actually started with Word docs because the concept of blogging was completely foreign to me. Then one day I was searching for a picture of a book, and I saw this really awesome picture of a pile of books THAT HADN'T EVEN COME OUT YET (ARCs were a foreign concept as well). I clicked on the link, was taken to Makeshift Bookmark, and the rest is history!

That's a unique name.  How did you come up with the title for your blog?
Haha. Well, my nickname is Geo. Which is short for Geobob Spinelli. (DON'T ASK.) In high school a friend of mine used to jokingly call me Auntie Spinelli. Thus, Auntie Spinelli Reads! Not very creative, I'm afraid. :p

I bet no one else has that name though!  Are you doing any reading challenges/read-a-thons this year?
Yep! I'm participating in a total of seven 2013 challenges: The Paranormal Reading Challenge (hosted by myself along with Megan Likes Books), Sequel Challenge (hosted by moi), SophomoreDACSARCDystopia, and Audio. I also do monthly challenges andRandom Reads.

Wow you're busy this year!  How else has blogging enhanced your reading experience?
Well...I'm definitely a lot more critical than I used to be. I tend to look for flaws, reasons why I'm not enjoying a book, rather than just thinking, 'Meh, it's ok but not that great.' And then I get to share my sarcastic ranty feelings.

On the opposite end of that scale, if I absolutely LOVE a book and want to rave about it, I actually can! And people listen! *is baffled*

Not to mention I'm able to access bookish news like I never could before. And being in the bookish community introduces me to books I probably never would have seen otherwise!

Speaking of the bookish community...which bloggers do you talk to most?
The main one is Hannah (aka Inky) from Book Haven. Her and I talk basically every day! She's my adopted lil bloggy sista! My day is not complete until I get a dose of her crazy silly self. Closely following are Annabelle @ Sparkles & Lightning and Trayche @ILoveTeenBooks. Love them!
Others I talk to frequently are: Nikki @ Fiction Freak, Eileen @ Singing & Reading in the Rain, and Millie @ Millie D's Words. And of course, I talk to YOU from time to time :)
I hope I'm not leaving anybody out! I talk to a lot of bloggy people, but the ones listed are the most frequent.

What is your favorite post you've ever done?
Oh gosh! Probably my End of 2012 Survey. It was fun to do and I covered everything bookish/blogging from 2012.

I'm obsessed with TV...What TV shows do you watch?
Once Upon a Time is the only show I watch. I love it so much! Other than that I haven't been able to commit to any shows.
