Page 175:

"At the end of the room, a shadowy figure stood over a wooden operating table surrouned by a lantern and candles on a high shelf.  The candlelight reflected in dozens of dark glass jars lining the wall, like the glowing prayer candles in a dark cathedral.  Only these jars didn't hold votives, but things I could only imagine.

Specimens.  Experiments.  Nightmares.

And the figure at the front, the unholy priest, was my father."

Page 212:

"I squeezed the knife harder.  Then I realized that anyone who saw the pile of pits would know I'd passed this way.

I threw them into the jungle to hide my trail...As I turned to go, one of the pits sailed back through the air in a graceful arc and landed at my feet.

I clutched the knife and spun around.  Something was out there."

I'm finishing this tonight. It's so suspenseful and dark.  I know it's a retelling, but to me it just seems so original.

Miz B. from Should Be Reading

Each week bloggers share a few lines of the book they are currently reading.  No Spoilers please!

This weekend I took a 4 hr trip to NY and read Sweet Evil the entire time.  It made the time fly by it was such a good book.

"What do you want from me Kai?"

"For Starters?" His voice lowered to sexy, dangerous depths.  "I want to introduce myself to every freckle on your body."

A powerful shiver ripped through me.

-Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

I'll be posting a review later in the week.

Top Ten Older Books I Don't Want People to Forget About:
(I'm only doing 5 this week)

1. Sloppy Firsts- I could read this series 100 times and never get bored of it.  The humor always has me laughing out loud.  I wasn't blogging when this book came out so I never really got a chance to talk about it with anyone.

2. Can You Keep a Secret- I really want to reread this book.  It was so silly and fun.  I remember reading it a million times before I discovered blogging and new books lol.

3. Leaving Paradise- I read this series in a day.  I hope everyone reads Simone Elekes sometime in their life.  She's amazing.

4. The Other Boy- Really anything by Hailey Abbott is great.  I don't ever hear anyone talk about her books and I always thought they were great when I was younger.

5. Lock and Key- This is one of my favorite books by Sarah Dessen.  It came out a few years ago, but I've already read it many times.  I love that her books don't have to focus on romance and they can still be so powerful.

Miz B. from Should Be Reading

Each week bloggers share a few lines of the book they are currently reading.  No Spoilers please!

This week I'm reading to awesome books.  So I decided to share both =)  Enjoy!

"It's your fault you know."

"What?" I hear him frown. "Why?"

"My neck's been hurting ever since the wreck."

"I'm sorry." He slides my hair to one side, and I feel his soft breath behind my ear just before his lips touch my skin.  A sizzling charge shoots from my shoulder to my toes.

"Jason!" I spin around to face him, covering the spot with my hand.  "What are you doing?"

My heart's flying in my chest, and I can feel my cheeks turning pink.  I quickly scan the halls, but it doesn't look like anyone saw.

"We're not together anymore," I say.

He leans against the lockers and smiles at me like he knows his kiss felt amazing.  "We never were."

-The Truth About Faking by Leigh Talbert Moore

My review for this will be up tomorrow so don't forget to check back!

He moved so slowly, so deliberately, that if he'd been outside the veil, I'd have had him pinned to the ground with my elbow in his throat in less than a second.  But he was inside, with her, and he knew he could take his time.

He met my eyes, smiling, and executed one swift slice with his blade.

Across her throat.

Everything went quiet.

Shadows Gray

(#6)

{The next lady wants a skinny mocha, the next a half dozen muffins and cappuccinos for her co-workers.  Three hours go by like that, with nary an interesting customer, until finally someone familiar darkens my cash register.

“Coffee.  Black,” says Luke.  He looks as usual, like he just rolled out of bed, forgetting to shave.  On him, it seems to work.

“Can’t interest you in a toffee cream breve? My specialty?” I cajole.

“Are you kidding?  This some sort of entrapment?  You know darn well a troop of well organized macho men would jump me and demand my Man Card if I ordered something like that.  Coffee . Black.”

The Immortal Rules

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1)
{But the Chicago skyline had buildings that dwarfed even the vampire towers, and there were a lot more of them, even shattered and crumbling as they were.  It reminded me of a mouthful of broken teeth, grinning madly against the night sky.} Pg. 387

AND

{“He suddenly leaned in, and his fingers brushed my cheek. Warmth flooded my skin, and I frozen, waiting for him to pull back.

He didnt. The tips of his fingers lingered on my cheek for a moment. Then, very slowly, his hand slipped forward, the palm brushing my skin. Frozen, I stared at him, watching his face as his fingers moved from my cheek to my forehead to my chin, like a blind man tracing someone's features to see them in his mind.

"What are you doing to me?" he whispered.”}

Top Ten Favorite Book Quotes

1. "So it's not gonna be easy. It's going to be really hard; we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me... everyday." -The Notebook

Top Ten Books You'd Like To See Made Into A Movie

1. Unearthly- This book is pure genius in my opinion.  The plot twists and turns with surprises.  Clara is such a great main character and Tucker and Christian are so deliciously hot.  Wouldn't mind seeing Tucker played by Lucas Till.
2. Divergent- There is so much action, emotions, and surprises in this book I think it would be a great movie.  Tris and Four's relationship alone would be enough to make me want to see it.  Plus the world Veronica Roth created is so unique and I would love to see how each faction looks and what they wear.
3. Hex Hall- This would be a great romantic comedy with a splash of demon chasing.  I laughed so hard reading this book and I think if Sophie was cast right it would be just as hilarious as a movie.
4. Under the Never Sky- Who doesn't want to watch two people fall in love in the wild?  I loved Perry and Aria and I think watching them fall for each other would make a great movie.
5. Shatter Me- I love Adam!  But I also think Warner would be fun to watch.  I wonder who they would cast as him?  This would be a good movie because the first half of the book Juliette doesn't know if she can trust Adam.  And some of the scenes between them were so hot...like in the shower.  Enough said.
6. The Perfect Manhattan- Idk why I love this book so much.  I think because it perfectly described what it is like to work in a restaurant.  The main characters love interest is hot, rich, and nice.  Sounds like a good chick flick to me.
7. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer- This movie would be so trippy!  Especially when she's having delusions.  It was hard to tell what was real and what wasn't in the book so imagine how much harder it would be in a movie.  I loved Mara and Noah too.
8. Legend- This would be like a spy movie with a little bit of romance.  Day is such an interesting character and I feel like he would come alive on the big screen.
9. Daughter of Smoke and Bone- I just want to see what Brimstone would look like.  Basically this book was too long for me, but if they cut some stuff out and made it a normal length movie I think it would awesome.
10. Uglies- This world is so original.  I would love to see the hover boards, what they look like after surgery, the smokies, and the evil lady.  Supposedly this is being made into a movie, but it's taking like 3 years just to start it so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Hallowed

{Tucker springs to his feet, wiping a smear of blood off his chin, hair all disheveled, eyes blue fire.

"Come on, pretty boy," he taunts. "Show me what you've got."

"Stop!" I scream.

Christian jumps over the fractured porch railing so lightly he almost seems to float.  Next to Tucker he has a slender grace, not the muscle from roping calves and working hard every day, not the grit of being a farm boy from Wyoming, but I know that he is incredibly strong.

Tucker Swings at him, and Christian ducks away.  He lands a punch to Tucker's side that again sends him crashing back into the dirt.}

Pg. 368

Teaser/Tune In Tuesday (#2 & #1)

I just finished these two books yesterday.  They were surprisingly really good!  I was listening to my iPod on shuffle and came across two songs that really reminded me of these books.

Tune In Tuesday is weekly event, hosted by Ginger at GReads!.  Each week we combine our love for music and books.  During the month of March Ginger has asked that we post songs that remind us of a book or whatever book we are currently reading.

I think this song shows the love/hate relationship that Caleb & Maggie have.  Through all their lies and avoidance of each other they still have passion and love somehow.  And I think it's funny that Caleb lived in Chicago and one point.

I think this song is more for Maggie in the second book.  She's too careful with life after the accident leaves her crippled.  She's hiding from everyone and anything that can hurt her.  She's avoiding and denying her feelings.  But slowly she gets more strength and courage and goes after what she wants.  Instead of hiding her pain and pretending she's okay she starts learning to forgive and love with Caleb's help and starts living again.
