This weeks Question:

{What is one thing you wish you could tell your favorite author?}

Books I Bought:
Fifty Shades of Grey: This one was awkward buying because the lady at the register was old enough to be my mom.  She gave me a weird look.  I just want to see what all the hype is about.

Catching Jordan: I wanted a cute chick lit YA romance and this seems to be getting great reviews.

Books I Received for Review:
Intangible: I found this one on someone's blog and decided I wanted to read it.  A few hours later the author emailed me asking if I would read it for review.  Weird!  It's like she read my mind.

Books From the Library:
The Selection: I already read this one since it's a new book and I only had it for 14 days.  It was amazing. Review to come.

This week's question:

Q: What is one thing you wish you could tell your favorite author?

I wish I could tell Sarah Dessen how much she influenced my obsession with reading, how she got me through rough times, and how much I look up to hear as an inspiration to become an author for teens.

Random Thoughts Thursday: New Adult

New Adult Genre
Finally some hope for us twenty somethings

As a kid, every few years you graduate to a new genre of reading. Starting with picture books and ending with YA.  Sadly at this point most people either grow out of reading or just simply don't have time because they are in college or working full time.  Then they don't pick up reading again until they're in their thirties and life has calmed down.  For the record, when I say most people I mean all my friends (and not the blogging community).  Because so few people in their twenties read, the market for stories with characters in their twenties is very limited.

A new genre has been proposed for protagonists in college or anyone from the ages of 18-30 ish.  I'm not sure if it will really happen since introducing a new genre is a big deal and can't just happen overnight.  I really hope it does happen because each year older that I get I seem to have more difficulty relating to characters in the YA genre.  For example, I look at love differently than I did in high school.  So when a 17 year old protagonist is practically slitting her wrists because a boy dumped her I'm practically yelling at the pages "Move on!  You'll meet so many cute guys in college you'll forget this guy!" It can be very frustrating, but I prefer to read about high school rather than a divorced wife with 3 kids, something I have not yet experienced at all yet.

Some argue that there are plenty of YA books that are relate-able for adults, like The Hunger Games.  I don't know about you, but to me Katniss is way more mature than any 16 year old I've ever known.  And really most stories like Harry Potter and HG have mature characters because they are facing death and obviously death matures you quicker than anything else.  So even if I can relate to YA characters on some level, I'd still rather read about someone my own age going through experiences like college, graduating, deciding you don't want to do what you went to school for, not being able to find a job, getting that first job, moving out, not having enough money to move out, all your friends getting engaged, etc.

One blogger has started a New Adult genre challenge.  Danya at A Tapestry of Words has started this in hopes of  helping other twenty somethings find books in this genre easily and giving them a place to chat about it.  You can read her letter to the publishers here  about why this genre should exist.

Weekly Event: Waiting on Wednesday (#4)

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill from http://breakingthespine.blogspot.com/.
It is a way for us book bloggers to feature which books we are eagerly anticipating!
(#4)

 34 Pieces of You

Goodreads.com summary:

There was something about Ellie... Something dangerous. Charismatic. Broken. Jake looked out for her. Sarah followed her lead. And Jess kept her distance, and kept watch.

Now Ellie's dead, and Jake, Sarah, and Jess are left to pick up the pieces. All they have are 34 clues she left behind. 34 strips of paper hidden in a box beneath her bed. 34 secrets of a brief and painful life.

Jake, Sarah, and Jess all feel responsible for what happened to Ellie, and all three have secrets of their own. As they begin to confront the darkest truths about themselves, they will also find out what Ellie herself had been hiding all along...

Release date: September 4, 2012

Why I am excited:  I love mysteries and especially love ones where you get to go on the ride of figuring out what happened.  This sounds like just that type of book.  We get to figure out how/why Ellie died and her secrets.  I want to know what she's been hiding all along!

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

Top Ten Books You'd Like To See Made Into A Movie

1. Unearthly- This book is pure genius in my opinion.  The plot twists and turns with surprises.  Clara is such a great main character and Tucker and Christian are so deliciously hot.  Wouldn't mind seeing Tucker played by Lucas Till.
2. Divergent- There is so much action, emotions, and surprises in this book I think it would be a great movie.  Tris and Four's relationship alone would be enough to make me want to see it.  Plus the world Veronica Roth created is so unique and I would love to see how each faction looks and what they wear.
3. Hex Hall- This would be a great romantic comedy with a splash of demon chasing.  I laughed so hard reading this book and I think if Sophie was cast right it would be just as hilarious as a movie.
4. Under the Never Sky- Who doesn't want to watch two people fall in love in the wild?  I loved Perry and Aria and I think watching them fall for each other would make a great movie.
5. Shatter Me- I love Adam!  But I also think Warner would be fun to watch.  I wonder who they would cast as him?  This would be a good movie because the first half of the book Juliette doesn't know if she can trust Adam.  And some of the scenes between them were so hot...like in the shower.  Enough said.
6. The Perfect Manhattan- Idk why I love this book so much.  I think because it perfectly described what it is like to work in a restaurant.  The main characters love interest is hot, rich, and nice.  Sounds like a good chick flick to me.
7. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer- This movie would be so trippy!  Especially when she's having delusions.  It was hard to tell what was real and what wasn't in the book so imagine how much harder it would be in a movie.  I loved Mara and Noah too.
8. Legend- This would be like a spy movie with a little bit of romance.  Day is such an interesting character and I feel like he would come alive on the big screen.
9. Daughter of Smoke and Bone- I just want to see what Brimstone would look like.  Basically this book was too long for me, but if they cut some stuff out and made it a normal length movie I think it would awesome.
10. Uglies- This world is so original.  I would love to see the hover boards, what they look like after surgery, the smokies, and the evil lady.  Supposedly this is being made into a movie, but it's taking like 3 years just to start it so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.  Just post a few lines from whatever book you are currently reading. Try not to use spoilers though!

Hallowed

{Tucker springs to his feet, wiping a smear of blood off his chin, hair all disheveled, eyes blue fire.

"Come on, pretty boy," he taunts. "Show me what you've got."

"Stop!" I scream.

Christian jumps over the fractured porch railing so lightly he almost seems to float.  Next to Tucker he has a slender grace, not the muscle from roping calves and working hard every day, not the grit of being a farm boy from Wyoming, but I know that he is incredibly strong.

Tucker Swings at him, and Christian ducks away.  He lands a punch to Tucker's side that again sends him crashing back into the dirt.}
