Passion For Bookish Fashion #2

I spend way too much time on Pinterest looking at cute outfits.  And one day I found a dress that reminded me of a character in a book I was reading.  I decided to start a feature where I could put together outfits that remind me of characters in books I'm reading!  Want to join in the fun?  Just grab the button above and make sure you link back!

As a Historical Fiction newbie, I was instantly intrigued by the clothing of the time period.  I actually had to do some research for this one, but I think I did okay...thanks to google!

Juliet originally comes from money so when she puts on one of her mother's old blue dresses I couldn't help but want to recreate that look.  It's described as a very plain blue dress with a high neckline to hide Juliet's scars.  She also carries a carpetbag with all her belongings and wears her mother's diamond ring throughout the book.

I decided to make a 2013 version of Juliet's outfit because I'd get a lot of weird looks if I tried to wear the other one.  What I discovered was that despite all the time that has passed, fashion hasn't changed all that much!

I had to go to other sites besides pinterest to find some of these things so I don't have links this week.

I'm not done with this book yet, but I'm loving it!
Look for a review sometime next week.

What do you think?
Can you see Juliet wearing this?
Would you wear the today version?

Sunday Post/Stacking the Shelves #24

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by  Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews.  Both are a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and talk about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Article 5
I've seen so many raving reviews for book two so I think it's time I start this series.  I got this from the library the other day.  Still have a bunch of books to read before this, but I'm excited to have it nonetheless.

My first ever read along and giveaway are up and running!  Please go check it out!  Also, I posted my first ever Review and Recipe!  I had so much fun with that one and can't wait to share more of my hand crafted recipes.

This week was tough. I got dehydrated again and had to get an IV, but other than that I've been feeling much better which means two things:

1. I've been watching Vampire Diaries nonstop (I'm on Season 2 Episode 8) LOVE Damon at this point! And Katherine is just annoying.  And...

2. I've been reading a lot.  I'm halfway through Madman's Daughter and loving it.  I even made up a Passion For Bookish Fashion post for it where I put together an outfit Juliet wears in the book and a 2013 version.  I was so excited to share this I almost posted today, but I controlled myself and waited.  Look for that post tomorrow!!!

{Review} & {Recipe} #1 Sweet Evil

I started a new meme here where I will be posting mini reviews  on the 1st of every month along with a recipe I've created or found that relates to the book.  To join me, add the image above to your post and link up below.

Mini Review:
A few months ago I went to my friend's bachelorette party that was four hours away. I knew I was going to be in a car with people I didn't know too well for that long time so I got Sweet Evil ebook out from the library on my phone. I figured if things got boring or awkward I could just pretend I was on facebook or something. Volcanoes could have been erupting outside my window and I wouldn't have noticed. I was so entranced in this story. I loved the idea of each demon having it's own sin that they encourage and spread. Kai's character was unique because not many guys jobs are to seduce women. What makes for a better story than two people who aren't allowed to fall in love? And Anna is sweet and kind.  The two shouldn't work together, but somehow they're a perfect match. I ended up finishing this book in the span of the trip. While reading in the car, One More Night by Maroon 5 came on, and it immediately fit with the scene I was reading. Kai and Anna were in a hotel room and things were getting heated. I'll leave it at that. Basically, this book was great and I can't wait for Sweet Peril to come out!
Recipe:

This recipe, much like Sweet Evil, is sinfully sweet.  I created it a few days ago since there isn't much I can eat right now.  My stomach's still all messed up.  I started throwing crap in a blender to get some protein and nutrients in me and here's what I came up with.

I swear the first gulp I took a little light shown down from heaven and angels sang.  Not sure if it tasted so amazing because I've been living off toast and eggs for a few weeks.  But regardless this is a healthy alternative for ice cream that'll knock your socks off.

Ingredients:
2 vanilla yogurt cups
2 bananas
2 tsp coconut oil (this stuff is like crack. It tastes just like inside of a mounds bar!)
1 tsp chocolate syrup (live a little!)
1 scoop protein powder
A splash of water
Ice (optional-if you're going to freeze it don't add this)

Throw all these ingredients into a blender and mix.  You can try adding peanut butter too maybe.  I also have frozen this into popsicles which are fan-freakin-tastic.  And I even froze it in a container.  Tastes like banana ice cream.  Enjoy!

Waiting On Wednesday #18

Jill from Breaking The Spine hosts this awesome meme where bloggers feature books they are eagerly anticipating to be published.

Seventeen-year-old Zoe and her cousin Jess eagerly start summer jobs at New Jersey's Fairyland theme park, but Jess does not get her dream role and Zoe is assigned to be personal assistant to the park's "Queen," winning her no friends.

 April 23, 2013

That summary is kinda short and vague, but I love the cover and it's by the author of Smart Girls Get What They Want (which I hear is really good!).  Oh and it also take place in Jersey which is where I'm from...although I've never heard of a Fairyland theme park.  I'm lovin contemp lately!

I'm cohosting my first read along ever!  Click the banner below to find out how to participate!  Oh and did I mention there's a GIVEAWAY!?!

The Carrie Diaries Read Along

Welcome to Queen Ella Bee Reads and Harley Bear Book Blog's first ever read-along!

How did this all come about, you might ask? Well, both of us were talking about the new Carrie Diaries show on Twitter the other day. We quickly discovered that we both wanted to read the book since the show's pretty cute. As such, we decided to do a read-along.

Here's the sitch:

- The Carrie Diaries Read-along begins at Monday, February 4th, 2013, 12:00am EST and ends on February 12th, 2013, 12:00am EST. The goal is to read 5 chapters a day. At the end of each day, updates will go up on our blogs. But here's the tricky bit: we're taking turns with posting our daily mini updates. Meaning, on day one, the update will apear on Harley Bear Book Blog, on day two, the update will appear on Queen Ella Bee Reads and so on and so forth. At the end of it all, we'll both we posting reviews on our blog AND we'll be doing a guest post on Story Crush (!!!!)

- You don't have to be a blogger to join us, but IF you are, you should do some kind of post for the read-along and link up. If you aren't a blogger, just leave some comment love so we know you're reading with us! Sharing is caring, you know.

- WHY should you draft a post to tack onto the linky, you ask? Because at the end of it all, there will be a GIVEAWAY! Anyone can enter, but if you link up you'll be able to enter for MORE chances to win a book that's been turned into a TV show of your choice (ex: The Carrie Diaries, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, etc.).

- The linky closes down on February 12th, 2013, 12:00am EST so make sure to link up before that.

- If you make up your own post for this readalong, whether in a kick off post, update post or review-of-the-book post, feel free to grab the button from the top of the page, just make sure to link back to Harley Bear Book Blog (the artist in residence). Also feel free to use the little blurb a above but please, please, PLEASE make sure to link back to both of our blogs/give credit. There's a lot of plagiarism going around. Don't be apart of it.

So if you think The Carrie Diaries TV show is AH-freaking-dorable and have been meaning to dig into the book, we'd love for you to come read with us!

Happy Reading!
Gaby and Melissa
