A Beautiful Struggle was free on Kindle this week so I snatched that bad boy up right away.  A big thanks to Soho Press for the copy of Strangelets and Allison Rushby for The Heiresses.  Friday I was in a meh mood because I'm getting very bored of being sick.  So my mom took me to B&N to cheer me up.  I bought Sweet Peril which I have been anxiously waiting for to come out.  Hanging out with my mom and getting this book def made my day a lot better!

Harley Bear Post #6: e-newspaper bookish news

The wedding last weekend was AMAZING.  We couldn't have asked for better weather.  My sister looked gorgeous in her wedding gown.  While we were taking pictures outside this car stops in the middle of the road and a lady jumps out.  She starts yelling "Just wanted to tell you you look gorgeous!" to my sister.  Then her husband starts driving away because she's talking to us too long and she chases after him.  It  was hilarious!

In the bookish world, I read a lot this week and signed up for all sorts of fun stuff.  I'm super excited for Bout of Books next week.  I'm going to be hosting a challenge on May 16th with a GIVEAWAY so make sure you stop back if you're participating.  Also, I just got an instagram account and I'm doing the #bsmphotoaday for May again.  It's tons of fun so you should join in.

From Goodreads:

Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible-- a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if that weren't embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She'd left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.

This book made me laugh and smile so much which I was not expecting at all.  And the best part about it?  There was no tough issue like abuse as there seems to be in every other New Adult book I've read so far.  The whole-losing her virginity thing- wasn't even brought up that much.  The author focuses more on the development of the relationship between Bliss and Garrick.  And there's even a little love triangle thrown in there at one point to spice things up a bit.
Bliss reminded me of a Sophie Kinsella character.  She's constantly doing something embarrassing in front of Garrick and it was hilarious!  I could totally relate to her being uptight and wanting everything in life to be organized and perfect.  I also liked that she was in school for acting.  I had never read a book with a character like this and it was fun to see behind the scenes of how plays are made.
Garrick is British.  That's all you need to know.  But seriously, he was so swoon worthy.  While there was some insta-love it wasn't as bad as say...Twilight.  It was more like they met and fell for each other and then as their relationship developed they grew to love each other.  And I appreciated that because it felt more real than some of the other NA books I'd read.
If you're a fan of Sophie Kinsella, New Adult books, or are just looking for something funny and light you should really go add this to goodreads right now.

I'm not a binge reader: Pros & Cons of Reading Books as They Are Published

I recently got a little click happy on B&N.com and ended up buying the second book in a bunch of series that I've been reading.  And if you've seen me around the blogosphere lately you know I'm a little too excited for Bout Of Books 7.0 this month.  That's because I intend to reread the first books of those series I just bought and then start on the second.  I know I definitley have to reread those first books because I can't remember everything that happened in them.  I read those about a year ago and my memory is slowly getting worse with age.  So it got me thinking about which is better:

Starting a series before or after all the books have been published?

I find that I personally like to read books as they come out.  I don't mind rereading the first book.  So here are the Pros and Cons of reading books as they are published.

1. Anticipation of the next book coming out (twitter parties, cover reveals, & WOW posts) is fun.
2. Getting the chance to review an ARC or egalley of it is super exciting.
3. You have more people to talk about it with.  Everyone's reading it at the same time and wanting to chat (like when Clockwork Princess came out twitter and exploded with updates as people read it).

1. Cover changes can screw up your collection (I have the old Shatter Me and the new Unravel Me and my OCD doesn't like it!)
2. You can't read them one right after the other so rereads are usually necessary.
3. This goes with #2...if there is a huge cliffhanger at the end of a book you can't start the next book right away and the wait can be torturous (Jennifer L. Armentrout I'm lookin at you girl!)

Don't get me wrong, waiting until all the books are out in a series can be just as great of an experience.  I discovered devoured The Hunger Games, The Mortal Instruments, and Vampire Academy series once all the books were already out.  In a way it was great because I could go to the library and take all the books out at once and just drown in a sea of amazing books.  I was tempted to make book angels (like snow angels--in case you were wondering) and just read until I finished the series.  But something was missing.  I didn't really have anyone to fangirl over them with because people weren't really excited about VA as  much anymore since the first book was published in like 2007.  And there was no built up excitement prior to reading it.  I kind of just stumbled upon those series.

So which do you prefer?  Are you a binge reader?  Do you wait until a series comes out with the last book to dive in?  Or are you like me and you anxiously wait for each book in the series to come out?

{Review} Apollyon by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Number of Pgs.: 360
Publication date: April 4, 2013
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Genre: YA, Paranormal, Greek Mythology
How I got the copy: Won from Janina from Synchronized Reading
Rating:  5 Stars
From Goodreads:

Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.

Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.

The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.

Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.
Plot: 9/10
Characters: 9/10
Setting: 9/10
Pacing: 8/10
Style: 10/10
Cover:  Fire was used a few times during fighting so I guess it makes sense this cover the flower looks like fire.  I think the covers for this series could be a little better.  They don't really go with the series to me.
45+50=95 (5 Stars)

Jennifer L. Armentrout should be given an award for best character development in a series ever.  Each character in this series grew in this book and it felt natural and real.  Alex matures, but is still her snarky hilarious self and Marcus isn't as much of a meanie.  Even the smaller characters like Lea changed.  And Aiden is even more amazing if that was even possible.  Seriously, the swoons I have for this guy are ridiculous.  Definitely my all time favorite book boyfriend (and you know I have lots of those).  And since the last book made me want to punch Seth, I was glad he wasn't in this one as much.

Sometimes by the fourth book in a series the setting gets redundant and boring.  But JLA doesn't disappoint.  She takes the characters to new interesting locations and describes them beautifully while introducing some Greek Mythology stories as well which I loved.  It also felt a little dystopian to me too which is always a good thing in my mind.

My only complaint was the beginning seemed a little long.  I was glad I read Elixir, but I got bored quickly with Alex not being herself.  I missed her snark and jokes.  And of course I missed her and Aiden's interaction.  However, that shower scene definitely made up for the first few chapter's slow pacing.  Once things started picking up I read the last half of the book in one sitting.  Literally, I did not move/breathe/blink for a few hours.
