Shelf Candy Saturday

So apparently the blogger who was hosting this before vanished off the face of the earth.  So now it's hosted by Maria.

What is it?: Post a picture of a book with a cool cover that has caught your interest.  As a bonus you can put the cover artist's info.

This cover makes me smile.  And you know why?  I think it's because the  Happy is in the shape of a smile.  Also the color yellow usually reminds me of happy faces which you guessed it...makes me smile.

I love the silouete aspect of the people and the sun in the background.  Oh and the reflection on the
water.

The font reminds me of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Site.  I just checked and these books are written by the same author so that explains that.

HELP NEEDED: I need help deciding if I should read some books even though I don't like their covers.

So Close to You

So Close to You (So Close to You, #1)
From Goodreads
Lydia Bentley has heard stories about the Montauk      Project all her life: stories about the experiments that took place at the abandoned military base near her home and the people who’ve disappeared over the years. When she stumbles into a vessel that transports her to a dangerous and strange new reality, Lydia realizes that all the stories she’s ever heard about the Montauk Project are true—and that she’s in the middle of one of the most dangerous experiments in history.

Alongside Wes, a darkly mysterious boy whom she is wary to trust, Lydia begins to unravel the secrets surrounding the project. But the truths behind these secrets force her to question all her choices. And if Lydia chooses wrong, she might not save her family but destroy them... and herself.

Why I Chose it:

The movement in this cover is what really makes this special.  It looks like a storm is brewing, which makes sense if you read the synopsis. Looks like it could be a tornado that is forming or the heavens are opening up.  I also love the colors.  That dark blue/gray makes me think that the book is going to be dark and suspenseful.

I wish I could find the cover artist online.  I've done lots of googling and came up short.  How do you guys find cover artists?  I seem to always have a hard time.

The Unquiet
The Unquiet
From Goodreads
Sixteen-year-old Rinn Jacobs has secrets: One, she’s bipolar. Two, she killed her grandmother.

After a suicide attempt, and now her parents' separation, Rinn and her mom move from California to the rural Ohio town where her mother grew up. Back on her medications (again!) and hoping to stay well, Rinn settles into her new home and school. She refuses to be daunted by the fact that the previous owner hanged herself in Rinn's bedroom, or that her classmates believe the school pool is haunted by Annaliese, a girl who drowned there. But when a reckless séance goes awry, and terrible things start happening to her new friends—yet not to her—Rinn is determined to find out why she can’t be "touched" by Annaliese...or if Annaliese even exists.

With the help of Nate Brenner, the hunky “farmer boy” she’s rapidly falling for, Rinn devises a dangerous plan to uncover the truth. Soon reality and fantasy meld into one, till Rinn finds it nearly impossible to tell the difference. When a malevolent force threatens the lives of everyone she cares about--not to mention her own--she can't help wondering: who should she really be afraid of?

Why I Chose it:

I feel like lots of books have covers with girls underwater lately, but this one is really captivating to me.  It's creepy yet serene all at the same time.  It looks like she is sinking because her hair is floating upwards, yet she doesn't seem to be struggling at all.  I'm curious why it's called The Unquiet.  Guess I'll have to read to find out.  This book comes out July 17, 2012.

Side note: It is nearly impossible to find out who the cover artists are for many books.  I think they should get more credit!  For those of you who do shelf candy posts...how do you find the cover artist?

Smokeless Fire
For the last two years Ari Johnson's life has been anything but normal, and on her 18th birthday, when her friends surprise her with a gimmick genie claiming to grant wishes, Ari discovers the truth. The tragic and strange occurrences surrounding her 16th birthday were not coincidental and her life is never going to be the same again.  Ari's real parents are not normal. They are not loving. They are not human.  They are myth.  They are Smokeless Fire.  They are Jinn.

Cover Artist: Claudia McKinney
Facebook/Work
Claudia has designed book covers for many publishers including Random House, Llewellyn, Simon & Schuster.  Right now she is working on designing a website for a best seller romance author.  I've taken a look at some of her work and it is fantastic.  It's the kind of art that gives you goose bumps.  I chose this book cover because I loved the colors. The green at the top kind of looks like smoke which makes you wonder why it's called Smokeless Fire then.  I love the flames at the bottom too.  It also makes you wonder why the girl doesn't look scared even though she is engulfed in flames.

What do you think of Claudia's cover?  Leave a link to your Shelf Candy post and I will check it out.
