THIS WEEK'S FEATURED BLOGGERs -

The Bookshelf Review & Compelled by Words

Q: What would you do over if you were to start your blog again from scratch?

Don't get me wrong, I love my brother's dog Harley (Harley Bear), but I think if I were to have a second chance at starting my blog I would name it something else.  Lots of people probably think my blog is about bears on motorcycles who read books.  I've actually had some people find my blog through searching Harley in google.  Which sometimes isn't a bad thing because some people enjoy stumbling upon it. But I don't want people to not click on it because it has Harley in the title.  But now after six months I can't imagine what else I would call it.  And everyone seems to love Harley Bear's picture!  Here's a comment I got from someone who found it by accident:

This week's featured blogger -Read It, Read It, Loved It

Q: Do your reading habits change based on your mood? Do you read a certain genre if you are feeling depressed or happy?

I go through phases where I want to read one genre more than others.  One week I'll be craving contemporary then the next week I'll want action and adventure.

If I'm sad I usually try to read a contemp because they make me smile and they have happy endings.  If I'm happy I might try something adventurous where you explore a new world.

But most of the time I just grab whatever is in my to be read basket (yes, I'm that organized/OCD) and see what cover/summary appeals to me most in the moment.

While you're here don't forget to stop by my review Of Poseidon.
I loved it and have been recommending it to all my friends!

This week's question:

Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don't like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.

I used to only read contemporary and chick lit (with the exception of Harry Potter and Twilight).  But one day I saw Divergent on the shelf at the library and picked it up because the cover was interesting (and shiny lol).  The only other dystopian I had read was Hunger Games and I wasn't too sure if I liked that genre or just happened to like HG.  I looooved Divergent and now I can't get enough of dystopians.

This week's question:

Q: What is one thing you wish you could tell your favorite author?

I wish I could tell Sarah Dessen how much she influenced my obsession with reading, how she got me through rough times, and how much I look up to hear as an inspiration to become an author for teens.

This week's question:

Q: What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

I think I am most nervous about Divergent becoming a movie someday.  This is one of my favorite books and I would be really mad if the film industry messed it up.  I think, like The Hunger Games, there is so much inner dialogue Tris has that it would be difficult to portray that in a film.  I still hope they make it into a movie though!

This week's question:

Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

I use reviews as a guide, but they don't dictate whether or not I buy a book.  If the reviewer is specific about what bothered them and I know it will not bother me then I will still read the book.  However, I usually put it on the bottom of my To Read list depending on how bad the review is.  Fun Fact: I usually read low reviews first on Goodreads and then work up to the 5 star reviews.

This week's question:

Do you read one book at a time or do you switch back and forth between two or more?

Before I began blogging I used to only read one book at a time.  But now when I participate in blog tours I have deadlines, so I find myself reading up to three books at a time.  I make sure they are different genres though.  So for example, at one point I was reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo(Adult Fiction), Charmed Thirds(Chicklit/YA), and Oppression(YA Fantasy).  I had no problem reading these three at the same time because the voices of the main characters in each book were so different.  I also usually have one ebook on the side so I can have it with me on my phone at all times.  How many books do you read at one time?

This week's question:What is the best book you've read this month?  What is the worst book you've read this month?

I enjoyed this book the most because I picked it up off the shelf with no expectations.  I hadn't really read reviews, but I had seen people on Goodreads.com saying that they liked it.  And the cover really fascinated me.  I was so wrapped up in this book trying to solve the mystery.  I could not put it down.  I just had to know who did it.  I love when books surprise me!

This book I am still reading.  I don't hate it, although some parts are a little too repulsive.  I had seen the movie and knew parts of it would be disturbing, but I loved the two main characters and the mystery aspect of the movie so I decided to try the book anyway.  Since I have seen the movie, it's a tad boring because I already know how it will end.  I thought usually movies change things around, but so far this book is almost verbatim of what was on the big screen.  Everyone tells me to stick with it so I'll keep trying.
