The Unquiet
From Goodreads
Sixteen-year-old Rinn Jacobs has secrets: One, she’s bipolar. Two, she killed her grandmother.
After a suicide attempt, and now her parents' separation, Rinn and her mom move from California to the rural Ohio town where her mother grew up. Back on her medications (again!) and hoping to stay well, Rinn settles into her new home and school. She refuses to be daunted by the fact that the previous owner hanged herself in Rinn's bedroom, or that her classmates believe the school pool is haunted by Annaliese, a girl who drowned there. But when a reckless séance goes awry, and terrible things start happening to her new friends—yet not to her—Rinn is determined to find out why she can’t be "touched" by Annaliese...or if Annaliese even exists.
With the help of Nate Brenner, the hunky “farmer boy” she’s rapidly falling for, Rinn devises a dangerous plan to uncover the truth. Soon reality and fantasy meld into one, till Rinn finds it nearly impossible to tell the difference. When a malevolent force threatens the lives of everyone she cares about--not to mention her own--she can't help wondering: who should she really be afraid of?

Why I Chose it:
I feel like lots of books have covers with girls underwater lately, but this one is really captivating to me. It's creepy yet serene all at the same time. It looks like she is sinking because her hair is floating upwards, yet she doesn't seem to be struggling at all. I'm curious why it's called The Unquiet. Guess I'll have to read to find out. This book comes out July 17, 2012.
Side note: It is nearly impossible to find out who the cover artists are for many books. I think they should get more credit! For those of you who do shelf candy posts...how do you find the cover artist?
What covers are you fascinated by?
the cover artist r frequently mentioned in the book /1st page
ReplyDeleteWhat if you don't have the book though =/
ReplyDeleteI love the cover you chose. I really like how you can see what looks like the water's edge.
ReplyDeleteAnd about looking for covers when you don't have the book? Well, I just google "cover designer of ". But it doesn't always work. Checking out the author's website helps sometimes too. Sometimes they'll mention the cover designer. Also checking out the old SCS posts of the different blogs participating helps you get to know different cover designers. If you check out their websites, you'll find that they designed covers you didn't even know they designed, sometimes even those of books that aren't out yet.
But owning the book is still the easiest way to find the cover designer :D. But of course that's not possible with a book that isn't out yet.
Hope this helps :).
The Unquiet is a wonderful choice. I have been drawn to this cover. Good point about the girl not struggling. Whatever is going on in this photo, she looks like she has accepted it.
ReplyDeleteAs far as cover designers go, I do a few different things. 1.) I go to a bookstore or library, look at covers and take notes. They are so much more beautiful in person anyway. 2.) I email the PR department of the publishing house explaining to them what I am looking for and why. I have always found them incredibly helpful. Authors, more often than not, do not know the designer, although most will find out when you ask. Weird, right?
Most importantly, just have fun and don't sweat the details. If you don't know anything about the designer but are in love with the cover, we would all love to see it featured.
Thanks for participating.
