Musing Mondays #6

    MizB of Should Be Reading
Each Monday bloggers     answer MizB's bookish question

This week's musing asks:

What are you currently reading?  Is it any good?  Would you recommend it?

Right now I'm reading Something Strange and Deadly because I'm participating in a blog tour.  It's my first zombie book!  I'm actually really liking it despite the fact that it kind of creeps me out.  I also like that the action starts on like the third page and doesn't stop.  And it's set in an old time period which makes it even more interesting.

I'd recommend it so far.  I plan on posting my review on Wednesday so check back if you want to see if my opinion has changed.  Also, stop by on July 29th for a guest post from the author Susan Dennard!
My previous Monday posts.

What are you reading now?

I'll be posting a review for Belles later today.

This week's musing asks:

If you were going to write a book, what

would you write about? Would it be fiction,

 or nonfiction?

I write often, but am not really close to finishing the novel I'm working on.  It's a YA/New Adult contemporary story that I started writing more for myself last summer.  I had just graduated and I was confused and didn't know what I wanted to do with my life.  I figured writing usually helps me sort out my feelings so I put a character in a situation like mine and saw how she developed.  It was very therapeutic.  Here it is if you want to read it.

I also write for my goodreads group creative writing contests which you can view my stories here or here.

I've been writing forever though.  I started when I fell "in love" for the first time.  I put that in quotes because looking back at it I'm not sure I would call it love, more like high school lust.  Anyway, during that time instead of keeping a journal I wrote my feelings in a story form.  Now, many years later, I am able to read it and smile.  I think writing about special moments in our lives is a great gift to give our future self.

What about you?
Any writers out there?

Weekly Event: Musing Mondays (#3)

This picture was taken last year at the Today show in NYC.  My fellow sisters of Alpha Xi Delta and I had gotten up at 4 am to drive to the city and spread Autism Awareness. (I'm to the left of the girl holding the sign of the the Today logo).

April 2 is Autism Awareness Day.  Help spread the word so the millions affected by Autism can find hope in research of the causes, types of prevention, and a cure.

This week's musing asks:
Do you belong to any book clubs- face to face or online?
If so, how long have you been with the group(s).
I have been a member of goodreads.com for a few months now.  I joined two groups there and have been an active member ever since.  Each month both groups pick a Book of the Month for us to read and discuss.  The one group has a Theme of the Month (April is Angels and Demons).  I absolutely love it.  We participate when we have time and we never meet in person so there's no hassle scheduling time to meet.  Everyone is enthusiastic about books and we always have lots to talk about.  We even have creative writing competitions, games, and non book related chats.  If you don't belong to goodreads yet you should check it out.

Are you in any book clubs?  If you are in a face to face club how did you find it?

This week's musing asks:
I think if the book was published by an actual publishing company and the cover was terrible I would not want to read it.  They have the people with skills and materials to make great covers so there really is no excuse.  However, I have read books by self published authors that have covers they have made themselves.  I know they are not professional graphic design artists so I don't judge their covers at all.  I go by content of the summary for selfpub books.  In general though if the description really interests me I usually still add it to the bottom of my loooonnng To Read List.
