From Goodreads:
Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness.
Elisa is the chosen one.

But she is also the younger of two princesses, the one who has never done anything remarkable. She can't see how she ever will.

Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.

And he's not the only one who seeks her. Savage enemies seething with dark magic are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people's savior. And he looks at her in a way that no man has ever looked at her before. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.

Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young.

Most of the chosen do.

Holy character development batman!  There was so much growth for all the characters in this book it was fantastic.  And unfortunately, one of the very few things that kept my interest.  I wasn't a big fan of the plot.  Not sure if this is because I'm not a big fantasy reader or if I just didn't like it.

The world was a little confusing to me (kind of like how Shadow and Bone was confusing at first).  But the world was definitely cool and unique.  I pictured it to be this Spanish Aladdin world mixed with the TV show Reign on CW.

Ya there was a lot of weird stuff going on in my mind during this book.  Like how I pictured a troll doll everytime she mentioned the blue godstone in her belly button.
(If Karou and Elisa had a sister.)

The Bookish Wedding Tag

I got to part two in The Girl of Fire and Thorns so there will be a review coming up within this next week.  I feel like a bad blogger for not reading lately.  But I've been focusing on BookTube and stuff so here is yet another video.

Tag videos in the BookTube world are fun visual surveys pretty much.  So I created one where you pick which fictional characters you'd want to attend your wedding and what roles they would play.  Here are my answers.

And as always you don't have to be a vlogger to participate.  I'll leave the questions below if you want to do this in a blog post format.

Stacking the Shelves & Sunday Post #44

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by  Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews.  Both are a chance to share what books you got this week, what happened on your blog last week, and what is to come next week.

Yesterday I went to a signing for my favorite author of all time.  You guys, I fangirled so hard it was a tad ridiculous.  But it was only my second signing ever and it was Jennifer freaking Armentrout.  So what was a girl to do?
I bought and got Frigid signed.

I also bought Sentinel and Jen drew a fun picture on the inside and signed it.  I'll be giving that away soon to one lucky follower.

And then Spencer Hill Press gave me Stalked By Death and Whisper Falls for bringing a friend and asking a question.  So thank you!  That publishing company is always so nice and awesome.  You guys should check them out.

I'll be doing a post about the whole experience with the signing/release party soon.  And there will be giveaways involved in that post so keep an eye out for that.

Sentinel reaction in gifs (NO spoilers)

I just finished Sentinel and I figured now that my life is over...I mean the series is over....I should review this last book.  And I thought I'd use Supernatural gifs in honor of my favorite author.

Sentinel arrived to me by Amazon the Monday after it released.  It took me awhile to calm down.

But once I did I was rewarded with lots of Aiden.  We find out he apparently doesn't mind no pants and I'm okay with this discovery.

It was a lot of "I love you"
"No, I love you more"
but I was okay with that as well.
In fact I actually really enjoyed it.  Aiden's my homeboy.

Also, I've never laughed so hard at meatballs before.  I couldn't breathe.

Joining a sorority is a lot like Divergent...

Joining a sorority is a lot like Divergent...

You join greek life on campus and the day you accept your invitation, Bid Day, every organization gathers to see who chose their sorority or fraternity.  You wear your sorority's colors and sit with them in the stands!

That night you celebrate with your new friends and find yourself surrounded by older frat boys.  This is your expression.

Luckily I never experienced hazing, but some organizations still make their new members do crazy stuff.  So this would be the time that would happen.

{Mini Reviews} Between the Devil ATDBS and Black City

I wanted to really like this one.  The cover is gorgeous and the synopsis sounds so original and just amazing.  I saved it to read in October thinking it would be perfect for Halloween.  Unfortunately it wasn't very scary at all.  I think the author was trying to go for a gothic theme with the creepy old mansion and the old clothes Violet wore, but it just didn't really work for me.  Also, the plot was kind of confusing and felt all over the place.  But I did enjoy the character Jack and even River a little.  But her best friend Summer?  I wanted to smack that girl every other page she was so annoying.  Keep your legs closed girl!

This was one that I wanted to originally give 1 star, but then I got to page 264 and it redeemed itself in my eyes.  HOWEVER.  It shouldn't take that many pages to become enjoyable so I was stuck on how to grade this.  I think the unique way she portrays vampires was so original and refreshing.  And I loved that she used shocking twist to spice things up at the end.  I think since I already won book two I'm going to continue the series, but I'm a little disappointed I spent my gift card on the first book.

What have you been reading lately?

NaNoWriMo Update #1 (Day 5)

'
I feel so powerful!  I resisted the alluring BookTube videos and tweets that were calling out to me and actually wrote!  And not just a few words here or there.  On Sunday I was a total beast and knocked out over 5,000 words without even trying.

Top #=  words that day
Bottom#= Total
And that calendar was a big part of my success so far.  It sounds stupid, but the OCD in me HATES seeing that 0 every day.  So I vowed to never not write ever again (if that double negative makes sense).  Usually once I start writing I can't stop.  So the push to write is all I need and then I'm off and POOF-- 5,000 words.

This calendar is literally eye level from my bed so it's the first thing I see in the morning...after my life sized poster of Daemon Black...just kidding...I wish I had one of those to wake up to every day.  Maybe I'd actually be a morning person.

Allegiant review in 9 GIFs

I finally finished Allegiant which means I'm back on social media (I had been avoiding spoilers).  So here is my spoiler free reaction to the final book in the Divergent series.

Me during the first 300 pages:
At Tris and Four's relationship

At the boring plot

Then around page 301 shit started going down.

And Veronica Roth broke me.
I cried into my breakfast and prayed no one came home and walked in on me crying over fictional characters.

After I finished and realized the series is over.  Like for real.  There wouldn't be any more books in the series.  EVER.

So my overall feelings for this book?  I had a lot of anticipation and a lot of disappointment.
